Natural History Short Film
The Halcyon Days is a 25-minute film following the intimate lives of kingfishers as they struggle to raise a family. The film focusses on the journey of a female kingfisher as she must deal with the death of her chicks and then raise another nest successfully, against the odds. She must do all this before the season ends and summer makes way for autumn. As the days shorten, the devoted mother will have to choose between her chicks and her very own survival.

Set in the Greek myth of Alcyone and Ceyx, explaining how our Halcyon birds came to be, this is a story of transformation and the universal struggle to survive, in a sometimes hostile world.
